The McKenzie Method® (also known as Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy, MDT) is an internationally recognized and comprehensive approach developed for the evaluation and treatment of spinal pain. This approach also can be used to evaluate any joint of the body. Physical therapists use the method to evaluate, classify and treat patients by conducting a thorough history and assessing the patient’s response to repeated movement testing following a well-defined algorithm. The results of this evaluation help the therapist to customize an exercise program specific to the patient’s needs.
The McKenzie Method® encourages patients to become active partners in their recovery. Through posture correction and exercise, the goal is for the patient to be pain free and independent in the management of future symptoms.
Benefits of the McKenzie Method®
