The COVID-19 pandemic continues bringing community members together to provide safe care solutions, like wearing 3D-printed face shields, and it’s no different at Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network.
Lehigh University recently 3D-printed and delivered more than 100 face shields to Good Shepherd, helping to supplement the network’s personal protective equipment (PPE) supply during the pandemic.
“This kind of support is incredibly significant because it ensures we can care for our patients without risk of harm to them or our staff,” says Frank Hyland, MS, PT, executive director of Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network. “We extend a heartfelt thank you to Lehigh for their generous support.”
The face shields were 3D-printed in Lehigh’s Wilbur Powerhouse and Design Labs in Bethlehem after Good Shepherd and other health-care organizations reached out for help with PPE supplies.
“So that’s when we sort of jumped into action and tried to see where we could make the biggest impact with the resources that we have,” Brian Slocum, the lab’s managing director, said on the university’s website.
Lehigh’s face shields join a slew of other donations of hand-sewn face masks, gloves, hand sanitizers, eye goggles and other PPE supplies that have poured in to Good Shepherd over the last month.
“Caring and hope are something we can choose to do and something we can choose to hold onto, no matter what’s happening in our lives,” says Hyland. “At Good Shepherd, caring and hope is in our DNA, and it enables us to always find solutions to even the most difficult problems. During this public health crisis, we’re seeing that the Lehigh Valley community has a whole lot of caring and hope, too.”
