Children with disabilities participating in the Pediatric Assistive Technology Program are provided with state-of-the-art technology interventions. Assistive Technology is defined as any item, piece of equipment or product system that is used to increase, maintain or improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities.
Areas of Assistive Technology Include:
- Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
- Adaptive Computer Hardware / Software
- EADLs (Environment Control System Aids for Daily Living)
- Adaptive Wheelchair Seating and Mobility
- Switches and Switch-Adapted Toys
- Mobile Technology
Assistive Technology Services Include:
- Evaluation of the child’s condition as related to technology
- Determination of the child’s assistive technology needs
- Integration of services with other professionals
- Equipment training
- Assistance with identifying funding resources
- Access to the Assistive Technology Resource Center for the Pennsylvania Initiative on Assistive Technology (PlAT)

Equipment and Bracing
Good Shepherd’s Pediatric Equipment and Bracing Clinics connect children with disabilities and functional challenges with appropriate equipment to improve their comfort, independence and everyday function.
- To participate in the Equipment Clinic, your child must receive a physician’s prescription for an “Physical Therapy Evaluation.”
- To participate in the Bracing Clinic, your child will need a physician’s prescription for a “Physical Therapy Bracing Evaluation.”
